A focused practice, not a sprawling consultancy
Synthrex was established in Kuala Lumpur in 2018 by a small group of data scientists and enterprise technology advisors who had spent years inside large organisations wondering why AI projects so rarely delivered what was promised.
The answer, they found, was usually the same: the technology had been selected before the problem was properly understood, and the organisation hadn't been prepared to absorb the change. Synthrex was built to address both issues — starting with understanding, then moving carefully toward implementation.
Today, we work with mid-size and large organisations across Malaysia and Southeast Asia. We remain deliberately small so that every client engagement involves senior practitioners, not junior staff filling in timesheets.
Mission and values
Our mission is straightforward: help organisations develop a thoughtful, sustainable relationship with artificial intelligence — one that creates genuine value rather than headline noise.
Clarity before complexity
We spend time understanding the actual problem before suggesting any technology. Sometimes the clearest path forward doesn't involve a model at all.
Long-term thinking
We want to be useful to clients over years, not just in one engagement. That means we give advice we'd stand behind five years from now.
Transfer of knowledge
Every engagement is designed to leave your team more capable, not more dependent. Documentation, training, and knowledge transfer are built into every scope.
Who you'll be working with
Every engagement at Synthrex involves senior practitioners. These are the people who lead our work.
Reza Azmi
Previously led data science teams at a regional bank and a logistics company. Specialises in bridging the gap between data maturity and applied AI.
Nurul Liyana
Eight years of experience designing and validating machine learning pipelines for classification, forecasting, and anomaly detection across regulated sectors.
Suresh Kumar
Former enterprise technology advisor who has worked with C-suite teams across manufacturing and professional services to develop coherent AI governance frameworks.
Quality standards and protocols
These are the commitments that govern every engagement we take on, regardless of size or scope.
Data Confidentiality
All client data is handled under strict NDA. We use encrypted channels for data transfer and restrict access to named team members only.
Defined Acceptance Criteria
Before work begins, we agree in writing on what success looks like. Measurable criteria are part of every engagement scope document.
Documented Deliverables
All models, assessments, and reports are fully documented and designed to be understood and maintained by your team after the engagement closes.
PDPA Compliance
Our data handling practices align with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010. We assist clients in ensuring their AI implementations meet the same requirements.
Iterative Process
We work in structured review cycles with your stakeholders throughout, not just at project close. Feedback is incorporated progressively, not retrospectively.
Senior-Only Delivery
Every engagement is led and delivered by practitioners with at least six years of relevant experience. We do not delegate client-facing work to junior staff.
AI consulting in Malaysia's enterprise landscape
Malaysia's enterprise sector sits at an interesting point. Large organisations in financial services, manufacturing, and logistics have accumulated years of operational data, often in forms that are less accessible than they might be. The challenge is rarely a shortage of data — it's the shape of it.
Synthrex works within that context. Our assessments start by understanding what organisations actually have, what shape it's in, and what questions it could reasonably answer. From there, we identify where investment in data quality or infrastructure would make AI viable, and where it already is.
The regulatory dimension matters too. Malaysia's PDPA sets the framework for personal data handling, and any AI system that touches customer or employee data needs to operate within it. We bring that awareness into every engagement, so clients aren't discovering compliance questions after a system is already running.
Kuala Lumpur's business environment is also our home. We understand the practical dynamics of working across Bahasa Malaysia and English-language documentation, regional procurement norms, and the particular rhythms of organisations navigating Digital Economy Blueprint objectives.
